No person shall be buried in a cemetery in the municipality of Montgomery, Alabama until a burial permit is obtained from the City Sexton's Office.

"Notice of burial shall be submitted with a burial permit form and an administrative fee in the amount of $125.00 payable to the city to cover the costs of maintaining accurate record of all deaths and burials which occur in the city." Chapter 7-17 (c) of the City of Montgomery, Alabama Code of Ordinances.

• Burial Permit forms for indigent persons that the Montgomery County Department of Human Resources approve for a “Pauper’s Burial” need to be completed, but there are NO charges for the Burial Permit.
• Burial Permit forms for infants need to be completed, but there are NO charges for the Burial Permit for children less than one year old.

The City of Montgomery strives to maximize efficiency and embraces technology that boosts convenience for the public. Because credit card payments will reduce the administrative tasks associated with processing the hundreds of burials that occur in Montgomery each year, online payment will become the sole method of securing burial permits beginning September 1, 2018.
