On September 10, the USS Montgomery will be commissioned in a ceremony at the Alabama State Port Authority’s Pier Two in Mobile. The ceremony will last about an hour, but the pageantry, tradition and overall experience could last a lifetime in memory.

Cenergistic energy consultants will partner with City staff and new Energy Specialist Charlotte Prestridge to implement conservation procedures in city facilities, including City Hall, library branches, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Riverwalk Stadium and the Montgomery Zoo. The program’s six month start-up period has already saved more than $50,000.

Eligible participants must live within Montgomery city limits and be at least 17 years old and no older than 21 as of May 31, 2016. Potential participants must provide two letters of recommendation including one from a school official and another from a community leader who can provide verification of the student’s involvement in service or extracurricular activities. Community leaders include neighborhood association officers, faith-based leaders, coaches or nonprofit and youth service providers.
