Elijah Baker is the Communications, Engagement and Special Projects Coordinator at the Alabama Community College System. He produces a quarterly print newsletter for legislators, business leaders and non-profit executives across the state. He also hosts, writes and produces a monthly podcast – Access Granted – which highlights the path real life residents take to fulfill their mission through Alabama’s community and technical colleges.
His previous experience as a broadcast journalist at WBKB News 11 in Alpena, MI and WHNT News 19 in Huntsville, AL has taught him how to effectively represent and advocate for members of the community, as well as how to address the challenges they faced. While reporting at WBKB, for example, he covered the issue of harmful man-made toxins – PFAS – seeping underground into Michigan’s bodies of water and drinking water well systems. In 2019, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters awarded his work ‘Best Investigative Story.’
To this day, Baker continues to serve. Whether its supporting stage plays like ‘Selma the Musical: The Untold Stories’ at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center, patronizing the Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library, or stepping into a tango dance class at the Armory Learning Arts Center, Baker finds joy engaging with his community.
