The Public and Media Relations Office for the Montgomery Police Department is managed by Major Saba Coleman. The office is located in Police Headquarters located at 320 N. Ripley Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. In all matters of interest to the public, the Montgomery Police Department is committed to transparency and open communications emphasizing a balance between the citizen's right to know and the constitutional rights of the accused.

Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the Public and Media Relations Office, serves as a liaison between the Montgomery Police Department, the community, and the news media, both local and national, to provide timely, accurate and useful information regarding significant events.

Media Relations - The focus and function of the media relations team is an integral component of the day-to-day law enforcement operations of the Department, guaranteeing that the avenues of communication are consistently met while promoting excellence in police services; mobilize public involvement, and increase awareness of public safety initiatives that build upon the department's crime reduction strategies.

Special Events - The Public and Media Relations Office coordinates the presentation of semi-annual award ceremonies and memorial services.

MPD utilizes social media outlets to spread timely, accurate, and useful information that can positively impact a citizen’s quality of life. That information includes; public safety emergencies, natural disasters, road closures, police lead community events, safety alerts, etc.

The Montgomery Police Department Records Bureau for Incident Reports is located at 320 N. Ripley St. in Montgomery. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. There is a fee when requesting incident reports. You may also send a written request to: policerecords@montgomeryal.gov.

Accident Reports

The Montgomery Police Department Records Bureau for Traffic Accident Reports is located at 320 N. Ripley St. in Montgomery. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. There is a fee when requesting traffic accident reports. However, you may also request a copy online by following the link below:

Public Records Requests

The Code of Alabama 1975, Section 36-12-40, states, "Every citizen has a right to inspect and take a copy of any public writing of this state, except as otherwise expressly provided by statute." It is the policy of the City of Montgomery to provide access to inspect and make copies available of open public records that are received or created in the normal course of the City’s business operations.
