The False Alarm Reduction Program, implemented by the City of Montgomery, is now being handled through a third-party company, PMAM. Although, burglar alarms are very vital in deterring crimes, they also can cause a noise nuisance. In accordance with Section 3 of the City of Montgomery Ordinance 20-2001 & 51-2002, alarm users are required to obtain a burglar alarm permit. PMAM will assist the Montgomery Police Department with the enforcement of the city ordination concerning false alarms, administering fines for false alarms and burglar alarm permit applications.
Burglar alarm permits can be obtained and purchased by applying online at www.famspermit.com/Montgomery. The one-time application fee is $10.00.
The burglar alarm does not have to be renewed and is valid for the length of residency/business at the address listed on the permit. You will only have to obtain another a burglar permit if the resident/business moves to another address where an alarm is installed and functioning.
If the police responds to a residence/business due to an alarm call, and deems it to be a false alarm, a False Alarm Notification Form (FANF) will be issued after the third (3rd) false alarm.
- A $25.00 fine will be issued for the 4th false burglar alarm within a year.
- A $50.00 fine will be issued for the 5th false burglar alarm within a year.
- A $75.00 fine will be issued for the 6th false burglar alarm within a year.
- A $100.00 fine will be issued after the 7th and subsequent false burglar alarm within a year.
Notifications of non-registered alarm users and invoices for fines will be issued by PMAM. Also, all monetary fines will be collected by PMAM via mail to the listed address on the notifications and invoices that are issued.
