YouthBuild Montgomery Award Announcement

The City of Montgomery, Office of Workforce and Opportunity has received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. This grant will fund educational services, skills training, leadership development, job placement, and support services for 70 opportunity youth, ages 16-24 years old, who left school without a high school diploma.

Participants must live in one of the seven Montgomery zip codes identified as target community service areas: 36104, 36105, 36107, 36108, 36110, 36111, and 36116.

The YouthBuild Montgomery (YBM) program will consist of two, 12-month cohorts. Participants will receive 30 hours of program services per week. YBM participants will divide their time between the classroom, where they will earn a high school diploma or equivalency, and workplace training.

The grant will also allow for the substantial renovation of two previously selected affordable housing units, for people in need.

It is anticipated that participant outreach and orientation (bootcamp) for the first cohort (35 individuals) will begin in early September, 2024.
