Foster Grandparents Program
On June 21, 2024, the City of Montgomery was awarded $115,000 from AmeriCorps for the Foster Grandparents Program. Program Director Rhonda Watson is recruiting seniors 55 and older to tutor and mentor kindergarten through eighth-grade students at Highland Gardens Community Center, McIntyre Community Center, and the Therapeutic Recreation Center.
The Montgomery Police Athletic League will train the senior volunteers, who will help the students improve their reading scores. The program is set to begin in late October. The Grants Department is excited to provide a program that unifies the wisdom and experience of local seniors with our youth.
