The Fire Suppression/EMS Division consists of 15 Engine Companies, 6 Ladder Companies, and 4 District Chiefs divided into four response districts, responding to approximately 5,000 suppression calls a year. The men and women assigned to the Suppression Division are equipped with some of the most advanced firefighting equipment and training available in today’s fire service. We train in every aspect of emergency response to perform all firefighting and life-safety skills at a high level of effectiveness and efficiency. It is through this hard work and dedication that we ensure our community is served by a proud, professional, disciplined and well-trained Montgomery Fire/Rescue. Emergency Medical Service Division

The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Division responds to approximately 38,000 medical emergencies each year. The division is equipped with 12 medic units (ambulances) and 5 suppression advanced life support (ALS) engine companies. The men and women assigned to the EMS Division are equipped with some of the most advanced medical equipment and training available today. All members in the EMS division are firefighters as well and can work in either division as needed. We train in every aspect of emergency response to perform all firefighting and emergency medical skills at a high level of effectiveness and efficiency. It is through this hard work and dedication that we ensure our community is served by a proud, professional, disciplined and well-trained Montgomery Fire/Rescue. Our citizens expect the best and deserve the best, therefore we are committed to being the best.

The Division of Training coordinates and instructs suppression and EMS training as well as EMS and Special Operations CEUs for the department's 411 members. Training educates approximately 80 Trainees each year through a well-organized and professionally staffed Fire Academy. It is our intent to provide the highest level of safety and service to the public and the department through quality education, attention to tradition and innovation, while being vigilant in the recruitment and promotion of qualified personnel.
Annually, the department averages over 97,000-man hours on fire suppression related subjects. More than 16,000-man hours of continued education courses are taught to include hazardous Materials, Fire Instructor, Fire Officer, Incident Command, and other courses. The Division is also responsible for Citizen CPR Classes and Public Education.

The Administrative Services Division is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functions of the department. These functions include, but are not limited to, payroll management, financial management, accounts payable, grants management, building and fleet purchasing, communications liaison, and record-keeping. This division is responsible for budget planning and formulation and also tracks necessary accuracy throughout the budget cycle. This division serves as a liaison between the department and many vendors ensuring a timely product or service delivery. Within the Administrative Service Division exists an in-house maintenance team. This team of professionals ensures that the department's facilities and vital equipment are serviced or repaired to the expected standard.

The HR/Wellness Officer is responsible for overseeing and tracking wellness reports, including, but not limited to, FMLA, Fit for Duty, extended leave time and Workers Comp. This office manages all Human Resource and Health and Wellness programs in accordance with the NFPA and City of Montgomery and department standards to ensure quality, safety, and compliance while setting the standards of health management for our firefighters. This office also serves as liaison between Risk Management, the City Physician and the Benefits Division to work with employees relative to their medical concerns and alternatives and assists employees in areas regarding their benefits and well-being programs.

The Division of Standards & Compliance is responsible for ensuring that Montgomery Fire/Rescue complies with professional standards. This includes the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines, compliance with Insurance Services Office (ISO) requirements, and compliance and reporting to the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). This division is responsible for long-term planning and organization of community risk assessments necessary to ensure that personnel understand the evolving risk through data analytics. This real-time intelligence allows department leadership to apply targeted prevention methods and reposition forces to meet areas where demand is high.

Special Operations

The Division of Special Operations extends the capabilities of Montgomery Fire Rescue into three specialized rescue disciplines. Heavy Rescue Operations, Hazardous Material Operations and Dive Rescue Operations are the three main components. Through participation in classroom and hands on schools, we continue to expand our knowledge base, and experience to provide the citizens of Montgomery with Haz-Mat, Heavy Rescue, and Dive teams that are capable of dealing with the most complex of emergencies.
Montgomery Fire Rescue is working on taking the Division of Special Operations even farther and providing a much-needed service to the citizens with the introduction of an Urban Search and Rescue Type IV team. This new aspect of Special Operations will take the experience and training from the three components and blend them together with USAR specific training. Thus, providing not only the citizens of Montgomery, but the citizens of Alabama with a highly trained and equipped team to respond in times of need.
Inspections & Investigations Division

In order to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards for fire and life safety, Montgomery Fire/Rescue has trained and certified Fire Inspectors that conduct more than 20,000 inspections annually to include: installation of fire protection systems, new construction, ongoing compliance of existing commercial buildings and re-inspections of noted violations.
MFR Fire Investigators are graduates of the Montgomery Police Academy in addition to being experienced firefighters who have obtained an Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission certification, therefore giving them the authority to make arrests. Fire Investigators strive to accurately determine the exact cause and origin of both accidental and incendiary fires. Determining the cause and origin for fires that meet specified criteria is an integral part of Montgomery Fire/Rescue's commitment to public safety and fire prevention strategic plan.
