Home MenuArchitectural Review Board (ARB)
The purpose of the Architectural Review Board is to review all requests for exterior changes to historic structures and surface improvements to historic properties to ensure the planned improvements are consistent with the architectural and historical character of the individual structure and the neighborhood in which it is located. This is to provide for property improvements while preserving and protecting the uniqueness of the neighborhood and the investment of the property owners.
All planned improvements to historically designated properties must have prior approval of the Architectural Review Board even if a building permit is not required. Please refer to the ARB design guidelines and Window Maintenance, Repair, and Replacement Guide below.
This includes ALL double paned window replacements. The staff approvable list has expired, and due to misconceptions on handling window replacements, any double paned window requires approval from the Architectural Review Board. A matching, single pane, true divided lite replacement would be a replacement in kind, and is the ONLY window that can be replaced without ARB approval, but still requires an application to be approved by staff.
Public Hearings
The Architectural Review Board meets the 4th Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Hearings are held at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Auditorium at 103 N. Perry St. (City Hall). Recordings of the Architectural Review Board meetings can be viewed by clicking here. Due to our legal notice requirements, the application deadline is 26 days before regularly scheduled meetings of the ARB.
