CULTIVATING RIVERFRONT OPPORTUNITIES

The extension of the Riverfront Greenway Trail is an important investment for the whole community: increasing access to nature, to recreational opportunities and creating meaningful connections to the flora and fauna of the Alabama River and to the history and life of the City. It is a catalyst of future urban growth and redevelopment as new residents and businesses decide to locate nearby.

Building this great living civic infrastructure has been and will continue to be successful through strategic public and private partnership and investment.  See the Riverfront Greenway and Urban Trial Routes Map below.

Riverfront Trail 2022 Update for publish

Key Features of our Riverfront Greenway Trail System that we will continue to enhance as we build into the future include:

ACCESSIBILITY:

The riverfront trail is for everyone. It is critical that all existing and new segments of the trail continue to expand universal access and quality of experience.

CONNECTIVITY:

The riverfront trail needs to be accessible from all adjacent neighborhoods and parts of the city. This refers especially to safe and convenient pedestrian and bicycle access.

DIVERSITY OF ACTIVITIES:

A great range of riverfront activities is desirable including passive and active recreation, walking and biking, gathering spots, picnic areas, event venues, night time opportunities and more. With new pathways and programs come new opportunities for living, learning and earning near the Alabama River.

RIVERFRONT ECOLOGY:

Learning, teaching and experiencing the unique landscape, ecology, flora and fauna of the riverfront is important for current and future generations.

HISTORY AND CULTURE:

The riverfront is central to Montgomery’s cultural history and telling the stories through historic markers, interpretive signs, artistic interventions and more makes for a more meaningful riverfront experience.
