Food Trucks are an exciting opportunity for local, food-based businesses to grow by meeting people where they live, work and plan around the City. Whether an extension of a brick and mortar restaurant or an independent business, Food Trucks add to the vibrancy of urban life through delicious tastes and smells, creating a convivial atmosphere when they set up shop.

Starting with the creation of the Food Truck Ordinance in 2015, the City has been adding to the number of designated Food Truck spots downtown. The following resources are provided to assist folks in navigating the steps to setting up, permitting, licensing and running their own successful Food Truck business in Montgomery.

How to Start A Food Truck Business in Montgomery Alabama

A food truck business requires:

• A Food Truck and Commissary Kitchen that is inspected and permitted by the Health Department. This Commissary does not need to be owned by the Food Truck business, but it does also have to pass Montgomery County Health Dept. Inspection.

• To operate in the City of Montgomery, a Food Truck also needs a Business License.

• Lastly you need a place to set up. You are welcome to set up at private events. For Special Events hosted by the City, please see the link below and Contact Christina Golden Special Events Director, 334-625-2114, to get added to the City Food Truck List. And to set up downtown we hope you will try one of our many designated spots either near the Capitol or at Rotary Park in the heart of Downtown. These spots are available from 5:00am to 10:00pm.
