Black Business Month was founded by John William Templeton and Frederick E. Jordan in August 2004 to raise awareness of and promote support for Black-owned businesses, aiming for economic empowerment within Black communities. This annual observance celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and economic contributions of Black entrepreneurs throughout August. It highlights the diversity and excellence of Black business communities, recognizes their resilience and success stories, and fosters support networks and collaborations. The initiative encourages consumers, corporations, and communities to invest in and empower Black-owned businesses, driving economic growth, equity, and sustainability across various industries nationwide.
