The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Montgomerians step up to make our communities more equitable and take action to build the Beloved Community of Dr. King’s dream. While Dr. King believed the Beloved Community was possible, he acknowledged and fought for systemic change. His example is our call to action.
Making time to volunteer for MLK Day of Service is a great way to engage with your community while honoring the legacy of Dr. King. Whether you plan on cleaning up a public space, mentoring a young person, or assisting those who are food insecure, what you do makes a world of difference.
In honor of Dr. King’s birthday, Hands On River Region has planned a day of service on Monday, January 16 to benefit several area agencies.
Projects include:
- Distribution Volunteers who will pass out toiletries, blankets, jackets and toys to Emergency Solutions Grant participants as part of Dallas County Family Resource Center’s efforts to address homelessness.
- Cleaning and Organizing Volunteers who will clean, sanitize and organize That's My Child's four buildings.
- Construction Volunteers who will replace bathroom flooring, cabinets and vanity with Alabama Rural Ministry in Auburn, Alabama.
- Painting Volunteers who will paint the exteriors of That's My Child's buildings.
- Renovation Volunteers who will replace vinyl flooring, ceiling, drywall in two bathrooms with Alabama Rural Ministry in Opelika, Alabama.
