As part of Montgomery’s Home for the Holidays activity series, a new ice rink will bring skating to Montgomery’s Riverfront Park from Dec. 17-31!
Skating on the Riverfront is brought to Montgomery by Mayor Steven L. Reed, City Council President Charles Jinright, Council Pro Tem CC Calhoun and the Montgomery County Commission. The grand opening of the new ice skating rink is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17, from 5-7 p.m. and will feature award-winning figure skater Jordan Stokes. Regular hours after Saturday’s grand opening are Sunday-Saturday 2-8 p.m.
A Montgomery native, Ms. Stokes started her figure skating career at the young age of 6 at the Eastdale Mall skating with The Ice Skating Institute, a trade association for ice rinks(ISI) and also an international governing body for recreational figure skating. She later moved on to skate in Pelham, Ala., with United States Figure Skating institute (USFS). Through Figure Skating, Ms. Stokes has won multiple medals -- individually, in a pair and as a team. She skated with the Magic City Theater on Ice team. This team was set to compete in France for team U.S.A before the pandemic hit.
