2021 MLK Student Perspectives Video Contest

Hosted by the City of Montgomery and Sam's Club

  • Date: January 15, 2021 12:00 PM

The City of Montgomery kicked off a virtual contest to celebrate the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The 2021 MLK Student Perspectives Contest asks Montgomery students to submit a brief video presentation of their favorite quote from one of Dr. King’s speeches, sermons or interviews and then explain why that quote resonates with them today. Submissions should be two minutes or less in length and will be judged on critical thinking, creativity and performance.

“Dr. King’s lessons on leadership, service and respect may be more applicable than ever,” Mayor Steven L. Reed said. “We hope this contest offers a unique and tangible way for our students to experience history while also allowing them to commemorate Dr. King’s lasting legacy as our leaders and torchbearers of tomorrow.”

Three winners will be selected from two age categories, which comprise students ages 8-13 years old and those 14-18 years old. Gold award winners in each category will receive a commemorative medal and $300. Silver award winners will receive $200 and bronze will receive $100.

Each winning student will be invited to accept their prize from Mayor Reed at the Montgomery City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 19 at 5 p.m. Prizes are sponsored by Sam’s Club of Montgomery. Winners will be announced  here on January 18 as well as the City's social media channels.
