The City of Montgomery is holding a Virtual Public Meeting to present proposed amendments to the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The amendments implement recommendations from the Montgomery – Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to preserve military readiness and training capability at Maxwell AFB, while protecting public health safety and welfare of the surrounding community.
The Zoning Ordinance Amendment creates a Military Compatibility Overlay District for affected areas within the City of Montgomery. An overlay district is a planning tool that provides the flexibility to achieve a vision for a specific geographic area within the existing zoning ordinance. The enhanced code/standards are placed over (overlay) the existing zoning to protect and promote desired conditions of the area.
The Military Compatibility Overlay District for the City of Montgomery will address:
- Land uses with Maxwell AFB airfield safety zones
- Land uses that attract bird and wildlife detrimental to aircraft operations
- Sound attenuation for noise sensitive land uses within noise zones
- Outdoor lighting to protect nighttime flight training conditions
- Vertical height of structures to protect critical airspace
Advanced registration is required to participate in the meeting. After registering, you will receive instructions and a unique link to join the meeting.
