The City of Montgomery will host its annual New Year's Eve event, the Downtown Countdown Street Celebration, from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1 to ring in the new year with fireworks, confetti, a new Shooting Star and music provided by Kirk J and Pop Culture. Sponsors include Bama Budweiser of Montgomery, Capitol Hyundai and Johnson & Sons Steel, Inc.

The Center enables Montgomery’s three municipal court judges and administrative staff to handle more, smaller and specialized dockets thanks to two courtrooms – the old court building had just one. The new facility, located across from the Montgomery Curb Market, offers 25,000 square feet, more than tripling the space provided by the former court complex. Along with two courtrooms, it also offers amenities like up to seven pay windows, a new queuing system, dedicated parking for residents and staff and overnight security.

The event was MCCC’s most successful to date, and participants generously donated 12,764 pounds of non-perishable food items to benefit the Montgomery Area Food Bank. Montgomery Clean City Commission (MCCC), MAX Credit Union, AARP Alabama, Walmart #4691 and Gilmore Services will offer free on-site document destruction on December 2 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the south parking lot of Garrett Coliseum, 1555 Federal Drive.

Motorist should expect delays, but construction plans will be implemented to avoid major disturbances. Work will affect only one-direction at all times, and lane closures will only affect one lane at a time, unless unforeseen issues arise. The project is estimated to take 10 months.

The newly announced Montgomery Kickoff Classic – set for Week 0 on Saturday, Aug. 26 – will help open the college football season from the historic Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., The game, to air on ESPN, will feature two of the current top-ranked FCS teams in the nation, pitting Jacksonville State University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

National organization ranks Montgomery Finance Department among nation's best for reporting, accounting and transparency
City's Finance Department's diligent efforts in preparing and publishing a comprehensive annual financial report resulted in securing what is considered the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting for its 28 consecutive year since 1987.
