The Street Maintenance Department is a service department whose principal responsibility is to maintain city streets, sidewalks, and drainage ways. City crews routinely maintain sidewalks that have been deemed to present an immediate hazard to pedestrians. The crews also repair curbing that has been damaged to the extent it will cause injury or impede the flow of water. It is very important to keep leaves, pine needles and silt from causing build ups in the gutters. This will impede the flow of water.
The city's street resurfacing plan focuses on streets in the worst condition throughout the city. The City-wide street paving plan shows streets currently scheduled for resurfacing. To report potholes or broken sidewalks please call 311. City crews are also tasked with keeping the city’s ditches cleaned at least two to three times a year as well as working to clear inlets from obstructions that imped the flow of water. We need the citizens to help us by not dumping grass clippings, debris or anything else in the ditches or inlets. Mosquito spraying is done weekly during spraying season which starts the first week of April and continues through the end of October. Spraying is from 8:30 pm - 2:00 am (Monday - Thursday). On Fridays city crews put larvacide in areas of standing water to kill mosquito larva. Rainy weather will delay the spraying schedule. We are no longer spraying County areas. The County has its own mosquito program. City crews will remove and trim diseased and dying trees located on City rights-of-way, however a tree is not removed from public property without the approval of Russell Stringer, Urban Forester. It is the property owner's responsibility to remove trees from their private property.
