The Inspections Department is responsible for protecting the health, safety and welfare of the City of Montgomery and its citizens, through the enforcement of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas and property maintenance codes adopted by the city of Montgomery.
Technical Codes provide public safety, health and general welfare through structural strength, stability, sanitation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and by regulating the installation and maintenance of all Electrical, Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing systems. A subsequent function is generating revenue by the issuance of permits and providing the applicable inspections. The Inspections Department is responsible for enforcing the editions of the following codes: • The 2003 International Building Code • The 2003 International Residential Code • The 2003 International Existing Building Code • The 2003 International Energy Conservation Code • The 2003 International Plumbing Code • The 2003 International Mechanical Code • The 2003 International Fuel Gas Code • The 2003 International Property Maintenance Code and • The 2011 National Electrical Code The Inspections Department has four Divisions:
• Building Inspections Division • Electrical Inspections Division • Plumbing, Gas and Mechanical Inspections Division • Property Maintenance Division
