WHO ARE GROUP II EMPLOYEES?
Group II consists of all City employees within the Police Department and Fire Department who work in a position as a sworn public safety official.

WHAT RETIREMENT BENEFIT DOES A GROUP II EMPLOYEE EARN?
All Group II employees hired on or after October 1, 2005 earn creditable service of 2.5% a year for each year worked not to exceed 100% at the time of retirement.

WHEN DOES A GROUP II EMPLOYEE BECOME ELIGIBLE FOR RETIREMENT?
Group II employees are eligible for a SERVICE RETIREMENT on the day following their accumulation of 25 years of creditable service or on the day immediately following their 55th birthday.

Group II employees are eligible for a DEFERRED VESTING RETIREMENT upon completion of 10 years creditable service. Benefits earned will be deferred until their 55th birthday.

Group II employees are eligible for a MEDICAL DISABILITY RETIREMENT upon the completion of 5 years creditable service NOTE: Medical disability retirements are approved at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of the Employees Retirement System and are based on an accumulation of sufficient information to prove permanent disability. HOW MUCH NOTICE SHOULD I GIVE?
The Retirement office must have a signed application on file 30 to 60 days PRIOR to the date of retirement. Call the Retirement office to make an appointment to sign your application and other necessary paperwork.
