Message from Fire Chief Miford Jordan

I am pleased to welcome you to the Montgomery Fire/Rescue website: a valuable resource to residents of and visitors to the City of Montgomery. 

Our mission is aimed at the preservation of lives, protection of property and the environment of our community from the hazards of fire, medical emergencies, and natural disasters in a professionally responsible manner. 

Our Department 

The Montgomery Fire / Rescue Department serves 175.37 square miles of the city in a medical, fire prevention and suppression capacity.  Our workforce consists of 460 dedicated and professional employees, who are very diligent to remain highly trained, citizen oriented, technically current, as well as physically responsible.  Four hundred and fifty one are uniformed and nine are civilian.  The department operates its daily activities and functions from a centralized headquarters, Training Academy and fifteen fire stations.  Montgomery Fire/Rescue protects the citizens of Montgomery with sixteen Class-A pumpers; three serving as Advance Life Support (ALS) Rescue Companies, six Truck Companies and seven Fire Rescue Medic Units. The department’s specialty units include two Hazardous Materials teams, one Heavy Rescue Team, one Dive/Swift Water Rescue Team and a vast arsenal of specialized tools and equipment. During the 2009 calendar year, Montgomery Fire/Rescue responded to 24,585 EMS emergencies with an average response time of 4:35 minutes. These EMS runs totaled 83% of all emergency responses. In addition to the EMS emergencies, we responded to 5,006 suppression emergencies with an average response time of 3:38 minutes to incidents within the city limits of Montgomery.
