Telecommunications

John Gray is the Telecommunications Manager, he oversees and guides all technology-related activities associated with the delivery of telecom products and services for every department of the City. Job functions include:

• Develop and manage a technically skilled staff
• Ensure effective administration and fiscal management of City resources

Telecommunications provides a strategic framework and direction for leveraging technology to create business value. Specific functions and services provided by the Division of Telecommunications include:

• PSAP E-911 System Admin & Support
• Telephone Systems and Programming
• Communications Server Administration and Support
• Help Desk Services and User Support
• Telecom Network Management and Support
• 311 system support
• Manage the implementation of VoIP
• Administer the City’s Wide-Area, including over 120 locations
• Cellular/wireless/PCS/Blackberry/Pager services for the City of Montgomery mobile employees
• large and small telephone systems, the voicemail, the long distance access, and switchboards
• backbone transport (Wide Area Network) to link all City of Montgomery locations with each other for e-mail, web access, and unique departmental applications
• Telephone, copper and fiber and cabling
• Voicemail and Automated Attendant support

We are responsible for distributing and maintaining desktop communications hardware and software. Our technical experience is enhanced through relationships with key vendors to help us provide our customers (the City) with superior service. Our services focus on three main goals - increasing productivity, reducing costs through the use of innovation, and improving end-user satisfaction. Our goal is to provide leadership in supporting and facilitating the effective use of technology as an everyday tool.
