Radio Communications

robert welch Steve Barrowis the Communications Radio Shop Supervisor and Billy Henderson is the Assistant Comunications Radio Shop Supervisor. They are responsible for planning, scheduling, assigning, supervising, and inspecting all maintenance, repair, and installation work of the Communications Technicians assigned to the radio shop. Additional duties include: developing and administering Requests for Payment (RFPs) and intergovernmental agreements with other government agencies; assisting City departments with budget estimates for Communications equipment costs, equipment application recommendations, and labor costs; performing technical work in the analysis and specification of City Communications and emergency equipment considered for purchase. 

Radio Shop

 The Radio Shop is responsible for the maintenance of all 2-way radio equipment used by the City workforce. In addition, they are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the newly acquired 4-site EDACS 800 MHz radio system. This system is used by all City and County Public Safety entities as well as several public works departments in the City and County.  The Radio Shop Dept. consist of  2 supervisors, 1 production controller, 6 radio engineers, and 2 installers.

 

This department also installs all 2-way radio equipment at fire stations and in vehicles operated by the Police Department, Fire Department, Sanitation Department, Parks and Recreation, Maintenance Department and Garage Department. The radio technicians also install and maintain Mobile Data Terminals, video cameras, tracking devices and radar in public safety vehicles. Another area of responsibility is the Civil Defense siren network. The Radio Shop maintains not only the Civil Defense backbone system but also maintains all the individual sirens located throughout Montgomery County.
