This bureau is responsible for the investigation of felony crimes against persons and is divided into three specialized units:


Homicide Unit::
This unit investigates crimes such as capital murder, murder, attempted murder, unexplained deaths and police shootings.

Robbery Unit:
This unit specializes in the investigation of bank robberies, business robberies, person's robberies, thefts by deception, and purse snatchings.

Special Victims Unit:
This unit investigates all offenses involving sexual assaults such as rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse. They also enforece the Community Notification Act, which places limitations on the release of sex offenders into the community.

Street Crimes Unit:
This unit responds to areas of high crime in an effort to deter its recurrence. Project Safe Neighborhood is also enforece by the Street Crime Unit fhtough alabam I.C.E. (Isolate the Criminal element), which carries a 5 year mandatory prison sentence when convicted of a firearm violation.

General Investigations Unit:
This unit operates and handles less serious crimes and assists detectives in specialized areas/units.
