MONTGOMERY – City of Montgomery and Montgomery County officials today presented a proclamation and key to the city to the service men and women comprising Air University and the 42nd Air Base Wing at Maxwell Air Force Base in recognition of their service to the River Region.

The proclamation hearkens to the recent success of the Maxwell Air Force Base Heritage to Horizons Air Show, the biggest air show to visit Alabama in several years. Thanks to the efforts of Maxwell AFB leaders, Heritage to Horizons attracted more than 160,000 people to the area resulting in an estimated economic impact of about $10 million.

“Montgomery is known as the Best Hometown in the Air Force, a call sign given by the United States Air Force due to our community’s commitment to partnering with Maxwell leadership on various projects enhancing the overall quality of life in the River Region,” Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said. “We do not take that lightly. We do not just use that as a slogan. It is heartfelt; it is appreciated; and it is an awesome responsibility we have to live up to every single day.”
